The Darkest Night (unpublished)
This section draws on The Darkest Night, an unpublished story. The opening document and numbered DN documents are manuscript sources, not published AO3 chapters. Ages, relationships and events below describe this earlier point in the characters' lives.
Lila and the loss of House Faust
Vincent is twenty-one at the beginning of the manuscript, recently returned from study in Minstrel and engaged to Lila DuLoncray, Syzgian's twin sister. A Projectile Mage, he can redirect bullets and throw heavier material with magic. During the attack, he recognizes a Darksider impersonating Lila by its unfaceted eyes. His fiancée and family are killed, leaving him the surviving Faust heir. (Opening manuscript; DN 2.)
Resisting a coerced marriage
Mira Rasmen falsely claims Vincent fathered her baby, and the Council declares a marriage despite his explicit refusal of the vows. With help from Kittar and allies, Vincent removes his family's possessions and records, protects the estate through foreign holdings, burns the empty mansion and withdraws into the Sanctuary rather than submit. The draft later confirms the child is not his, and Curtis orders the forced marriage annulled. (DN 3; DN 5.)
Vincent joins the defense against the remaining Darksiders and makes his inlet and property available during Enca's recovery. He offers dock space, building supplies and practical assistance to the Parksons and others displaced from the Guardian Quarter. He is blessed by both Baron Samedi and Hephaestus.
