Vander Pradesh is the fourth adopted son of Archduke Arman Pradesh, the absolute sole surviving carrier of the Husen bloodline, and the premier master of the lethally venomous Havati Serpents. Standing as a historical anomaly, Vander is the first Shadowquip mage to successfully survive into adulthood since the conclusion of the Holy Wars. Having triumphantly navigated his ancestral trials, he holds the ascended status of an active Void Angel, granting him high-tier mastery over extraplanar voids and shadow manipulation.
Biography
The Fall of Clan Husen and Adoption
Vander was born during an era of volatile, escalating inter-clan warfare across the Grass Sea. When he was a mere two years old, the floating island of the Husen Clan was targeted and brutally ambushed by a rival faction. As the defenses collapsed, his mother, desperate to preserve her son's life, begged the infant Vander to unleash the primal shades nesting within his magic.
With deep, enduring regret, the infant triggered the release; the ravenous Void Shades emerged from the darkness and entirely devoured both the attacking forces and the native Husen clan population alike, erasing the lineage and leaving Vander as the sole survivor. Following the tragedy, he was rescued and legally adopted by Archduke Arman Pradesh, becoming a core pillar of the family's first generation.
The Bloodhunter Subjugation and Presca
During his childhood, Vander harbored deep personal aspirations to follow a peaceful path and train as a licensed Sudehpah. However, due to the terrifying combat potential of his rare Shadowquip biology, his destiny was violently derailed. The then-corrupted ruling Steel Council of Bosco forcefully recruited and subjugated him into the ranks of the Bloodhunters—a highly classified, black-operations division tasked with state-sponsored assassinations and deniable wetwork.
It was during his deployment within this dark military underworld that Vander crossed paths with Presca Martel, a fellow elite Bloodhunter. Sent on a mandatory mission to execute Presca, Vander completely defied his programming; instead of killing his target, he befriended the operative, forging an unbreakable, clandestine bond of trust that endured beyond their forced service and later evolved into a deep romantic partnership.
The MCC Sweotra Mission and the Triad Mating
A profound turning point in Vander's life occurred during a high-stakes, international operation deployed under the jurisdiction of the Magic Control Council (MCC) within the country of Sweotra. Tasked with a critical containment mission, Vander and Presca worked in close tactical synchronization alongside the Encan Guardian, Cidalise "Cida" Gousselle.
Throughout the intense peril of the Sweotra deployment, a profound mutual attraction ignited, with both Vander and Presca developing deep romantic feelings for the Encan woman. Faced with a choice between the two tightly bound partners, Cida entirely bypassed standard mortal conventions. Utilizing the unique physiological and instinctual sovereignty granted to a female Dire Shifter, she claimed both Vander and Presca simultaneously, permanently binding them both as her legal, spiritual mates and establishing a powerful, co-equal triad relationship.
Sef: The Key of the Hall
Unbeknownst to Vander throughout most of his active life, his primary shadow served as the physical anchoring point for a high-tier cosmic relic. Locked within his shadow was Sef, one of the legendary Keys of the Hall.
Vander himself is entirely unaffiliated with the Hall as an organization; his shadow merely acted as the passive, physical containment vessel for the key. The ancient spirit Sef had intentionally bound himself to Vander's shadow framework to continuously monitor and log the evolution of Shadowquips and Void Angels. This ancient stewardship was the result of a solemn, cosmic promise Sef had sworn to the woman he loved over two thousand years prior.
Personality and Appearance
Vander is widely celebrated for his devil-may-care, intensely flirty, and fun-loving persona. A dedicated party boy to his absolute core, he lives to laugh and actively loves to entertain those around him, utilizing his flamboyant charisma to mask the deep trauma of his childhood operational history.
Physically striking at 6'2" with an athletic, well-conditioned build, Vander possesses shoulder-length black hair highlighted with dark red streaks, and piercing, wine-red eyes.
Arcane Physiology & The Cultivation Program
Following his ascension to a Void Angel, Vander permanently bonded with his companion serpents, Searsha and Meala. To save the critically endangered draconic species from complete biological erasure, Vander has instituted an aggressive cultivation program.
Utilizing custom alchemical confections engineered by the Pradesh family chef, Mr. Elan, Vander personally guards a secret supply of specialized bonbons capable of temporarily realigning a consumer's internal arcane matrix. Under his absolute supervision, Vander administers these items to trusted mages, guiding them through a high-stakes Venom Conditioning Protocol to build immunity to Havati toxin and safely attempt the sacred bonding rites.
Trivia
- Gastronomic Passions: Vander possesses an absolute, consuming love for cherries and any culinary cherry-derivative products.
- Favorite Beverages: His premier luxury drinks include artisanal cherry wine and high-end cherry cola ice cream floats.
Combat skills and interests
A master assassin and former Boscan Bloodhunter, Vander is a swordsman skilled in twin-katana combat, acrobatics, gymnastics and parkour. His Void Angel magic is associated with Set, shadow manipulation, stealth and enhanced senses. Black-and-red winged dragon-serpent tattoos cover his arms, shoulders and back, including a central shield motif on his back.
He enjoys cherry lollipops, spicy food, meat, motorcycles, training and time with his family. His motorcycle is a black-and-red Ducati. Royce Martel is the son of Cida and Presca, rather than Vander’s biological son.
Beasts of Seven (unpublished draft)
The following details come from the Beasts of Seven manuscript set, which is not yet published in its final form. Numbered document labels identify draft sources, not published AO3 chapters. Events describe the manuscript's chronology and may differ from later character profiles.
Searching for Cida's children
Vander breaks into Seven's sealed military records to locate the children taken from Cida during Kressa's reign. Tomo argues on his behalf, and Nuryev supplies the records while still requiring Vander to answer for the intrusion. Vander and Presca recover four children by the reunion described in Beasts 9; Fost's side has recovered five more at that point. Dorian was the first rescued and chooses to remain with Cida and her mates. (Beasts 8–9.)
Vander also regards Luna as his adoptive daughter. He works with her and Kittar during operations in Xillian, gives her protective clothing formed from his shadows, and helps her develop confidence in the field. When wards separate them, he prioritizes reaching Luna and regrouping with Kittar. (Beasts 23.)
The Darkest Night (unpublished)
This section draws on The Darkest Night, an unpublished story. The opening document and numbered DN documents are manuscript sources, not published AO3 chapters. Ages, relationships and events below describe this earlier point in the characters' lives.
The covert connection to Enca
Vander accompanies Kittar's first return to Enca, provides a small lacrima communicator made by Presca and connects Laurie to Farron. This creates an outside aid channel while the Council suppresses international communication. He later serves in Nuryev's campaign, scouting the Vongola pass with Cida and Noctis and helping rescue soldiers abandoned on the Icerend plains. (DN 3–4.)
Trust and the Darksider operations
Vander commissions Cida to repair his Black Manta in Lucress. Their growing friendship with Presca and Kittar develops through work, food and shared time, with Vander explicitly respecting Cida's boundaries. On returning to Enca he uses shadows and his combat training against the hidden Darksiders and suffers injuries while protecting others. (DN 6–7; DN 10–11.)
Afterward he gives the Parksons a practical way to rebuild by transferring the Black Manta in exchange for their old boat and nominal repayments. He recognizes that it will restore their livelihood rather than merely provide him recreation. The manuscript closes before the later triad relationship is fully established. (DN 12; DN 15.)
White Sea story
Vander helps penetrate the MCC's facilities during the Sweorta operation. The crisis involving Lilith demonstrates the danger of a contract's trial conditions and sends him beyond the immediate mission. Afterward he, Presca and Cida freely establish their three-way mating, joined through both Dire and Shadowquip magic. (White Sea, Chapters 13–23.)
With Lara and Corvus, Vander enters Hell and helps free Yana and Kayliss. By the ending he is overseeing construction for White Sea's Encan branch and raising his family with Cida and Presca. (White Sea, Chapters 31 and 40.)
