The Darkest Night (unpublished)
This section draws on The Darkest Night, an unpublished story. The opening document and numbered DN documents are manuscript sources, not published AO3 chapters. Ages, relationships and events below describe this earlier point in the characters' lives.
The Black Queen's experiments
Rohman and his older brother Dagoth began as dragons. Kressa's attempts to make them more human and controllable left them unable to reach the normal adult size of their species, though the draft says they retain potentially immense dragon lifespans. They become Nuryev's personal guards rather than the compliant experimental population Kressa intended. (DN 4.)
