The ruler is selected by the Assembly of Stone and Storm, which represents the country's major cities and ancestral clans.
The position is normally held for life, but the monarch may be removed for severe violations of national law.
The current High King, Draven Korr, is an imposing giantkin warrior with stone-gray skin, black hair and bright amber eyes.
Standing nearly twelve feet tall, he is known for his military experience, blunt manner and loyalty to the mountain clans.
He has no interest in ceremonial extravagance.
He considers a repaired bridge more valuable than a new royal statue.
