Technomancy
Technomancy is an advanced arcane discipline that bridges the gap between raw magical energy and technological innovation. Practitioners of this art possess highly analytical minds and a profound aptitude for mechanical engineering, focusing intensely on the development, modification, and mastery of both standard technological frameworks and specialized lacrima tech.
Classifications and Integration
Technomancy manifests in diverse specializations, ranging from classical computer programming and digital engineering to complex lacrima formatting. The discipline frequently intersects with Archive Magic.
While the two fields are closely linked, they fulfill fundamentally different roles in arcane development:
- Archive Mages: Function primarily as programmers, generating software, data matrices, and virtual systems.
- Technomancers: Function as the architects and builders, engineering the physical components, hardware, and structural vessels required to house those programs.
While a Technomancer is fully capable of mastering both hardware construction and software programming, doing so shifts them down a highly demanding path of deep arcane specialization.
Technomancy vs. Technopathy
A common point of confusion within the arcane community lies in distinguishing Technomancy from Technopathy. The core difference stems from origin and perception.
Source of Power
- Technopaths: Are born with an innate, biological psionic inheritance. They do not rely on standard spellcasting foundations to interact with machinery.
- Technomancers: Are traditional mages specializing in Light-, Crystal-, or Metal-based elemental frameworks. They expand their baseline magical theory through rigorous study to consciously influence, channel, and manipulate technological systems.
Perception of Lacrima
Technopaths possess a unique sensory perception of the world, experiencing ambient energy as a vibrant spectrum of colors. To a Technopath, a lacrima is far more than a simple storage crystal; they perceive the internal energy matrix of a lacrima as an almost sentient, humanoid entity.
In the case of older, massive formations—such as the Divine Crystals located in Bosco—Technopaths witness a fully formed, conscious spiritual presence within the stone. The longer a specific lacrima is utilized and handled, the more defined and stable this internal "being" becomes to a Technopath's vision. Due to the extreme rarity of true Technopathy, this phenomenon remains virtually unknown to the general public and standard academic institutions.
Notable Figures
- The High Administrator of Detroit: A legendary figure who represents the absolute zenith—and extreme logical conclusion—of tech-integration. The High Administrator has permanently transcended organic boundaries, existing completely within a decentralized technological system. By merging their consciousness entirely into the mainframe, they govern Detroit with absolute, computational efficiency.
- Sarah Pradesh: The daughter of Kaleb Pradesh and Hestor Kedanza. Inheriting immense arcane potential from her powerful lineage, Sarah stands as a prominent and highly capable practitioner within the field. Her unique family background provides her with a rare perspective on blending classical magic theory with cutting-edge engineering.
