Kingdom Plane

From Pradeshverse Wiki

Kingdom Plane is the heavenly realm associated with the Heavenly Host, the Makers, and the divine grace carried by Archangels and Archangel Mages. It is a place of service, refuge, learning, and extraordinary magic. Its sun never sets, and its Garden of Eden offers solace even to those burdened by long lives and grief.

Kingdom Plane is distinct from both mortal Ensla and the Celestial Realm. Travel between them is possible through appropriate spatial gates, but residence in or knowledge of the realm does not itself grant the power to return there.

Nature and relationship to other realms

Kingdom Plane is the source of a grace and magical connection that distinguishes unfallen Archangels from those cut off by a Fall. Its influence can reach Ensla through Archangel magic, gates, divine manifestations, and particular places of power.

The manuscripts distinguish Kingdom Plane from the Celestial Realm governed by the Spirit King. Many Heavenly Host warriors follow the Elder Gods Anubis, Ra, or Set; Angels of Mercy commonly follow Mehturt. Those followers may walk both realms and must obey the Celestial Realm's laws there. Chamuel, who follows Venus, is described as an exception to that pattern of allegiance. These relationships do not make the two planes interchangeable.

Environment, homes, and daily life

Perpetual daylight and the Garden of Eden

The sun never sets in Kingdom Plane. The Garden of Eden is an identified place within the realm. During Galasfriel's long absence from Ensla, the Garden sustains his sense that life remains worth living and provides a place where he can learn that his daughter Rose is safe.

An economy of deeds

Valor, self-sacrifice, bravery, and kindness are described as Kingdom Plane's currency. Galasfriel's service earns him a house and help caring for Rose. The realm therefore supports a lived community with homes, childcare, and education, as well as the Host's missions.

Children and education

Rose grows up in Kingdom Plane under her father's care and receives instruction from its angels. She returns healthy, educated, accomplished in combat and magic, and secure in her family's love.

Kingdom Plane is normally understood to be completely safe for children. Rose recalls cherubs distracting her from hazards while another angel or Archangel removed the dangerous object. The case of Corae and Rumpl is explicitly treated as a disturbing exception to these protections, rather than normal practice.

Time and travel

Unequal passage of time

More than ten years of Galasfriel and Rose's lives pass while less than two weeks elapse for those they left on Ensla. Rose leaves as a toddler and returns in her late teens. This allows Galasfriel to raise her without abandoning his obligations to the church, empire, and Ensla for an equivalent span of mortal time. The account establishes a difference in time passage, but does not give a universal conversion rate.

Gates and access

Archangel Mages can open spatial gates into Kingdom Plane. Galasfriel learns to gate after spending hours in prayer at Ra's temple, takes Rose with him, and later teaches Kayliss and Jac to use their gates and control their arrival points. Raphael also tells Remy that he will learn to gate to Kingdom Plane to work a heavenly forge.

Rose's upbringing there does not give her the necessary magic to open a gate herself. Access depends on ability or assistance, rather than familiarity alone. In another account, Giermo notes that his Archangels can disappear from his awareness when they enter Kingdom Plane; their absence from his senses does not automatically mean they have died.

The Heavenly Host

The Heavenly Host's angels and Archangels serve the Makers, carrying out missions and fighting wars across many worlds. Galasfriel works alongside them while living in Kingdom Plane. Angels of Mercy, Angels of Knowledge, and cherub messengers appear among the realm's beings.

Gabriel identifies himself as a Grand General of the Heavenly Host. He describes nearly half the Host as following him and the other half as following Micheal. Raphael identifies himself as Raphael Morningstar of the Heavenly Host from Kingdom Plane.

Raphael states that Kingdom Plane has no Points. The Host awaits direction from the Makers or Gods, serving and protecting rather than freely pursuing its own interests. Gabriel's inability to act for his own family illustrates the severe personal consequences of these obligations.

Prayers and messengers

A cherub delivers Rose's prayer from Ra's temple to Galasfriel in a small message orb. After receiving it, he gates back to Ensla, arriving at an altar. This is a documented instance of a mortal-world prayer reaching a resident of Kingdom Plane through the realm's messengers.

Grace, magic, and the Fallen

Connection and manifestations

Kingdom Plane's connection is central to Archangel grace. Its influence can manifest on Ensla: an Evening Star's truth aura brings painful punishment for false statements even when the speaker believes them, and Raphael attributes this punishment to Kingdom Plane.

A mating wave is described as a gift of Venus that spreads Kingdom Plane magic around an Archangel union. Its reach depends on the Archangel's age and power; accounts describe prolonged effects of love and positive emotion among adults, while children experience happiness, dreams, and sleep. The magic can also break deep-seated magical barriers: Kaleb's union with Hestor restores childhood memories that had been blocked. Agelessness is also associated with such unions.

Heavenly forges

Raphael describes Pergrand's forge as fed by three crossed leylines and directly connected to Kingdom Plane. Work at a heavenly forge can teach Remy to draw divine fire into the Pergrand forge and craft heavenly weapons effective against dark magic, demons, devils, and corruption by deadly sins.

Falling and redemption

A Fall can sever an Archangel's connection to Kingdom Plane without erasing all magic, agelessness, or experience. Pragi survives for thousands of years after losing that connection. The Otho Empire deliberately forces Archangel descendants from grace because the Fallen can be compelled to perform evils that those retaining grace would refuse.

Restoration is possible. Ivan's love for Pragi, their vows at Venus's temple, and the Goddess's intervention restore Pragi's connection. His appearance regains vitality and he recovers lost magic, though black tips remain on his wings. Redemption is therefore a demonstrated event, rather than merely a hope.

Exploitation by hostile powers

The connection also makes Archangel Mages targets. Dark rituals seek Kingdom Plane's power to revitalize fallen demonic Gods. Lucifer exploits Kayliss's connection while holding him captive and distills the realm's magic. Kayliss describes Kingdom Plane magic and pure Archangel blood as valuable commodities in Hell. His survival also shows that prolonged suffering does not automatically destroy grace: he maintains his connection despite captivity.

Notable histories

Galasfriel and Rose

Galasfriel raises Rose in Kingdom Plane, obtaining a home and assistance through his deeds. After Kayliss enters Hell, Galasfriel withdraws from Ensla for a long period and serves with the Host on other worlds. Rose's prayer eventually calls him home. Their history provides the clearest account of ordinary residence, education, time differences, and communication with Ensla.

Gabriel, Corae, and Rumpl

Gabriel's wife Corae and their son Rumpl are expelled after the child encounters a forbidden, cursed text associated with the Lovecraftian pantheon. Corae defends him and falls with him. Raphael stresses that the child should never have been able to enter the forbidden area; Angels of Mercy could have reversed the curse had the pair not been expelled so abruptly.

Another Angel of Knowledge accuses Corae of allowing the intrusion and trying to steal books. Corae denies this before Micheal. Raphael believes her and regards the incident as unresolved and profoundly abnormal. Gabriel remains devoted to his wife, but fears that an unauthorized attempt to retrieve her would cause tens of thousands of loyal Archangels to fall with him. This account should be read as a disputed incident, not proof of Corae's guilt.

  • Pragi: a Fallen Archangel whose connection is restored through Venus and his bond with Ivan.
