Icerend is a massive, deeply frozen northern continent characterized by an unforgiving, sub-zero wilderness. Beneath its treacherous, ice-locked surface lies a subterranean civilization engineered entirely to escape the hostile climate above.
Divine Mythos and the Slumber of Thoth
The history of the continent is inextricably bound to ancient divine conflict. Deep within the subterranean bedrock of the country rests the Elder God **Thoth**. Eons ago, a catastrophic battle culminated when the Younger God **Apollo** struck down the deity of wisdom.
Before succumbing to an eternal, magical slumber, Thoth petitioned the supreme solar patriarch, **Ra**, to bestow his divine crown upon the mortal populations of Icerend, who had served as his most faithful worshippers. Ra granted the request, anchoring the relic within the subterranean realm to safeguard Thoth's chosen people.
Subterranean Architecture and Network
To survive the brutal arctic conditions of the surface, the entirety of Icerend's population resides in vast, engineered underground city-states.
The Capital of Horos
The preeminent subterranean metropolis is the city of Horos. Located deep beneath the frost line, Horos houses the legendary Crown of Thoth. The relic serves a vital, dual-metaphysical purpose:
- Glacial Containment: The crown radiates a stabilizing warmth that prevents the volatile, absolute-zero "Ice of Thoth" from expanding uncontrollably and crushing the underground caverns.
- The Aegis Array: Through a complex network of linked geo-magical circles branching out to all other subterranean cities, the crown projects a protective field that actively repels hordes of the undead. Additionally, this linked network functions as an early warning sensory array, detecting the seismic footfalls of wandering Ice Giants migrating toward human population centers.
Historical and Notable Figures
Despite its isolated underground civilization, the bloodlines of Icerend have heavily impacted global geopolitical history.
- Xavier Magnussun: A legendary Icerendian historical figure and the maternal grandfather to **Nuryev Alisadian**. Wielding immense scholarly and arcane influence, he was historically trusted as a holder of the fated *Scroll of Knowledge* artifact, bridging the subterranean cold with the broader cosmic mysteries of the Star Seers.
- Eileen: The historic daughter of Icerend and the world's very first **Ice Valkyrie**. Renowned for her detached, stoic, and unyielding persona, she masterfully wielded the absolute-zero elements of her homeland. She eventually migrated from the frozen depths to help establish the isolationist sovereign structure of modern **Joya**, where she remains a revered Elder.
- Rune Magnussun: The younger son of Xavier Magnussun and maternal uncle to Nuryev Alisadian. Operating within the generational legacy of his father, Rune represents the continuous presence of the high-tier Magnussun arcane lineage within the northern tunnels.
