House Alderis
House Alderis rules the Alderis Duchy in the Kingdom of Whales. Its ducal title and holdings descend only through women, a trust established more than 2,500 years ago during the Ortho Empire and incorporated into Whales' founding laws. Men born to the house cannot inherit its title or lands.
Every woman born to the Alderis bloodline receives Celestial Summoning Magic, a blessing from the celestial realm dating to the duchy's foundation.

Alexander and Marla
Marla courted Alexander, loved him deeply, and chose him as her husband. She was graceful, strong, intelligent, compassionate, determined, beloved, and respected. Alexander was devoted to her. Following her death, his resentment over inheritance laws and the loss of his wife affected his relationship with Lucille.
Inheritance conflict
Alexander resents the laws preventing his son Laxus from inheriting. Lucille is the legal heir, despite being the second child. Laxus remains protective of his sister even though their relationship is complicated.
Historical figure: Marie Alderis
Marie Alderis was cousin of the Ortho Empress, a master Celestial Summoner, and one of humanity's six supreme anchors during the Ortho Empire and Holy Wars. Known for wielding the Golden Zodiac Keys and enslaving Archangel Mages, she used celestial power for imperial dominance. She was the only surviving high-profile anchor when the others fell. Lucille later sought to surpass her.
