The Darkest Night (unpublished)
This section draws on The Darkest Night, an unpublished story. The opening document and numbered DN documents are manuscript sources, not published AO3 chapters. Ages, relationships and events below describe this earlier point in the characters' lives.
Anastasia's treatment
Atticus supplies his newest birthing pod to save Anastasia from the pregnancy imposed in Pergrand. Working with Sirius and Stuart, he provides physiological support while the fetus is removed, then manages its separate development and requested genetic changes. Alziel names the child Adrian Thomas, the genetic son of Duke Thomas and Adrianna. (DN 14.)
Atticus can provide age-appropriate education through the pod but explicitly cannot replace the social development gained through real relationships. He gives the pod to Estrelle as a wedding gift for Sergei and Alziel, trains Stuart and offers continued supervision. He also proposes redirecting pods away from Pergrand's Berserker program toward Enca's recovery, with suitable family and care structures still requiring planning. (DN 14.)
White Sea story
Atticus supplies both an antidote regimen and pod technology for Anastasia's recovery. His work allows treatment of the mother to proceed separately from the child's development. (White Sea, Chapter 8.)
Later he brings pods to Whales and works with Nuryev to restore an Archangel triad using the recovered magic of three sacrificed mages. The work is set up at the Thomas resort, alongside the wider recovery effort for surviving mages and children. (White Sea, Chapter 40.)
