Zen Ralkier Pradesh holds a monumental place in international history as the first born Archangel Mage to manifest on Ensla in nearly 1,000 years. Wielding the rare, extraplanar frequencies of the Evening Star, his immense raw power is heavily balanced by a grim past spent within the brutal slave rings and royal laboratories of the eastern realm.
Biography
Early Life and the Laboratories of Pergrand
Zen was tragically stolen from his family at four years old during the catastrophic assault on the newly built Boscan Embassy in Pergrand—the very same event in which his mother, Ganier, was killed. While his father, Archduke Arman Pradesh, believed him to be dead, Zen was smuggled deep into the Kingdom of Pergrand.
Recognizing his exceedingly rare celestial biology, his captors first subjected him to intense experimentation inside the secret Laboratories of Pergrand. However, because the imperial researchers could find absolutely no mechanical or arcane method to pacify or control his Evening Star magic, they deemed the child untamable and discarded him into the slave pits.
Skysreach Colosseum and the Royal Feud
Zen grew up within the notorious walls of the Skysreach Colosseum, a blood-soaked arena where the severe physical abuse, assault, and exploitation of gladiators was a daily norm. Survival was contingent entirely on raw, unyielding violence. Zen adapted rapidly, learning to execute lethal combat by the age of twelve. His chilling proficiency and absolute fearlessness forced both rival gladiators and handlers to leave him entirely unbothered.
However, his presence sparked a toxic political feud at the absolute highest levels of the Pergrandian court:
- The Royal Inheritance: Zen was originally given to Prince Uram Karadin by his and Raimarc's father, the previous monarch King Gustan Karadin. This paternal decree granted Uram ironclad, absolute legal custody over the prize slave.
- The Royal Obsession: The ruling monarch, King Raimarc Karadin, became deeply infuriated by Zen's thriving combat record and his younger brother's absolute ownership of the slave. Raimarc aggressively demanded custody of Zen, but Uram repeatedly utilized their father's original decree to block the King's mandates, transforming Zen into a permanent focal point for major royal political infighting.
- The Reproductive Ultimatums: Because of his highly coveted, rare celestial lineage, the crown actively sought to harvest his genetics. However, Zen never sired any children during his entire captivity within the Kingdom of Pergrand. King Raimarc made the horrific parameters of his obsession explicitly clear: the absolute moment a son was successfully sired out of Zen, Zen would be immediately executed. Zen's absolute refusal to comply remained his greatest act of defiance against the throne until his eventual rescue.
Garion and the conflict with Raimarc
When Raimarc provokes the Dark Eagle after a match, Garion calms Zen through the affinity between Summoner and Archangel magic, but refuses to tell Raimarc how to exploit it. Garion explains that the king had killed his former One, leaving him unwilling to help Raimarc harm anyone else. The rescue organized by Zen's family follows in the next chapter. (White Sea, Chapters 5–6.)
Personality and Appearance
Zen is characterized as a deeply serious, fearless, and staggeringly powerful individual. Due to the isolation of his childhood, he is fiercely loyal to his allies and harbors an intense, protective love for his family.
Physically imposing at 6'4" with a muscular, highly conditioned build and a tanned complexion, Zen possesses mahogany hair and exceptionally rare, gold-flecked purple eyes.
Arcane Tattoos and Markings
- The Akeris Black Eagle: Carved onto the right side of his torso, marking his bloodline status within his father's ancestral clan.
- The Black Wings Tattoo: Inkings running across his shoulders that act as the physical anchoring point for his extraplanar magic.
- The Maternal Ruby: Zen wears a pristine ruby earring in his right ear, a salvaged relic that originally belonged to his mother, Ganier Pradesh.
- The Key of Draco: Fastened to his right arm via a specialized, enchanted band. The security charms woven into the band ensure that Zen is the absolute, singular entity capable of removing the celestial key from his person.
Arcane Physiology: The Evening Star
As an Evening Star Archangel, Zen's physical body serves as a direct conduit to the Great Void.
The Wings of Anubis
Zen's black wings manifest externally from the tattoo patterns spanning his shoulder blades. When called upon, the ink glows with a faint, low-intensity light immediately before the wings physically emerge. The feathers operate under absolute dynamic control: they can instantly harden to become denser than structural steel and sharper than any forged sword for offensive slicing, or soften to the texture of down feathers when required.
By their primal, extraplanar nature, Zen's wings are entirely resistant to every known form of physical or magical restraint. They completely ignore the containment frequencies of magic-sealing cuffs, allowing Zen to manifest his wings and shatter standard dampening bindings instantly.
Trivia
- Dietary Passions: Zen possesses an absolute craving for lemons, fresh fruits, and raw vegetables. Because he was raised on low-grade, toxic scrap rations within the Pergrandian slave pits, he was completely deprived of fresh agriculture throughout his youth, making them his most highly prized delicacies in adulthood.
Arena record and weapon mastery
Known in the Pergrand gladiator circuit as the Dark Eagle, Zen achieved A-Rank and more than one hundred consecutive victories before his family rescued and freed him. He is the circuit’s all-time top-winning gladiator.
Zen is a master of glaives and greatswords and practices Black Fire Magic. His appearance includes long black hair, vivid violet eyes, extensive healed scars, black eagle tattoos and large black feathered wings. He rarely smiles.
White Sea story
Zen is four when the attack that kills Ganier leaves him a captive. His wings save him from the blast. He is held in the Romell research facility until eight, then sent to Uram's gladiator establishment. Although his family believes him dead, Zen remembers them. His Evening Star wings and truth-sensing abilities continue to function despite magic-cancelling restraints. (White Sea, Chapter 4.)
His family's rescue brings him home to Infinesse. Recovery includes learning to live outside the arena and accepting that Arman wants his son back without requiring him to match Farron's education or accomplishments. Shimako becomes his protective magical bond; the story distinguishes that bond from a mating. (White Sea, Chapters 6, 18 and 22.)
