The Darkest Night (unpublished)

This section draws on The Darkest Night, an unpublished story. The opening document and numbered DN documents are manuscript sources, not published AO3 chapters. Ages, relationships and events below describe this earlier point in the characters' lives.

Anastasia and Pergrand

Alziel is a Dragonkyn and Anastasia's elder sister. After Anastasia is recovered from Pergrand, Alziel confronts Raimarc, supports Sergei's unrenounced firstborn claim and announces her intended marriage to Sergei and the political union it would create. She accepts Uram's plea to spare Raimarc and orders imprisonment with care and assessment instead. (DN 14.)

Alziel remains involved in Anastasia's treatment. She arranges for Atticus's pod to develop the child as the genetic son of Duke Thomas and the late Adrianna, naming him Adrian Thomas. Atticus offers the pod to Estrelle as a wedding gift and undertakes to teach Stuart its use. Alziel also proposes drawing on the Thomas family's care organizations when discussing Enca's reconstruction. (DN 14.)

White Sea story

Alziel demands Raimarc's removal following Anastasia's rescue, while Sergei argues for protecting Pergrand's people. Their growing relationship becomes a Dragonkyn mating. She defeats Raimarc at Sergei's estate; his knights refuse to fight for him, and the following proceedings expose the crimes sustaining his reign. (White Sea, Chapters 7–9.)

With Sergei she authorizes the later intervention in Whales. The ending records their healthy son, a Clockwork Dragonkyn, and his adopted sister, a Storm Dragonkyn. She and Sergei subsequently crown Uram King of Whales. (White Sea, Chapter 40.)
