Summoning Magic
Thousands of years ago mages needed a way to get power from other sources, they turned to Summoning.
Creatures from many planes watched in interest as the mages did so.
Summoning Magic is a subset of Planar magic, the mages in question able to focus on magical contracts that were created between the summoner and the extraplanar being that they came into contact with.
A summoner is not bound to simply create contracts with extra planar beings, but people and items as well. the items must, however, due to laws set in place many eons past, be associated with a constellation in the Night Sky after one mage decided to try to 'contract' a war machine of great power from another plane that would have upset the balance.
Demons and other creatures that can give confirmation that they agree to the contract are completely fine as some beings actively search out Summoners, or wait for a hapless summoner to try to summon a being randomly.
Tools of the Trade
Over the eons, the vehicle of the contract each summoner has changed, until the holy war, each summoner had exactly the same way of showing they were a summoner: magical tattoos that glowed on their skin, shimmering in the darkness lightly.
Given that the Dark Ones were trying to use the summoners, that demons were attempting to use their abilities to come to Ensla and overrun it, new methods of 'storing' contracts were created. Tying the contracts to items that could be hidden on their person, or in requip, helped keep the summoners moderately safer, but creatures like Fallen, Dark Ones and Demons could sense the magic, this only helps to make sure that other mages and humans do not immediately know what sort of mage the summoner is.
Types
There are Four types of Summoners. with Celestial Summoning being the most common and the others far less common.
- Celestial: What is considered the wide and well known version of the magic. Most "Summoners" are considered this type.
- Weapon Master: a Variant ont he magic, these summoners have more energy than others, tend to not have the same quirk of staying up far too late or napping half the morning away as the Celestial Summoner. They contract sentient weapons from Myths and Legends....and sometimes, they have a normal weapon that can become more.
- Venusian Summoner: Blessed by Venus, these Summoners are kind hearted, loving and will rise above all dark emotions that are thrown their way. They are Coveted by the Order of Venus. Their Main summons are always Cherubs...always.
- Anubian Summoners: The Rarest of all summoners. Once one in twenty was an Anubian summoner, but after the holy wars, they have only been born once every few hundred years and tracked down as quickly as possible. Those that Oppose Anubis also watch, their goal to get to the child before the Anubian order and slaughter the child.
